Interstate 495
Named the Capital Beltway in reference to Washington, DC, the city it travels around and completely encircles, Interstate 495 runs a total of 64 miles through suburban communities in Maryland (Landover, College Park, Silver Spring, Bethesda) and Virginia (McLean, Falls Church, Springfield, Alexandria). It has two bridges over the Potomac River, including the Woodrow Wilson Bridge, along which it enters the District of Columbia for a tenth of a mile. Approximately 35 miles of the Capital Beltway, on the eastern side, are shared by Interstate 95, due to its cancellation through downtown Washington; as a result, the Beltway's exit numbers increase counterclockwise and are based on I-95's mile markers within each state.
