Route 1 in Delaware runs north-south through all three counties of the state, beginning at the Maryland line on Fenwick Island and ending at Interstate 95 between Wilmington and Newark. Along the way it passes through Lewes, Rehoboth Beach, Milford and the Dover area, where it becomes a tolled freeway, which was built as a "Relief Route" for the increasingly congested U.S. Route 13.
