U.S. Route 340 passes through Jefferson County in West Virginia's far Eastern Panhandle, bypassing Charles Town and Harpers Ferry and crossing the Shenandoah River, before cutting through Loudoun Heights, Virginia and crossing the Potomac River into Maryland.
