Pennsylvania Route 61 stretches just shy of 82 miles southeast-to-northwest from U.S. Route 222 Business in Reading in Berks County, to U.S. Routes 11 and 15 in the area of Shamokin Dam in Snyder County, just west of a bridge over the Susquehanna River. PA 61 passes through the Coal Region cities of Pottsville and Frackville along with the city of Sunbury, and has interchanges with Interstate 78 in Hamburg and Interstate 81 just outside of Frackville.
