Interstate 70 begins in a parking lot on the western edge of Baltimore. From there it heads toward Frederick, Hagerstown and through mountainous areas before splitting from Interstate 68 in Hancock and turning northward into Pennsylvania en route to Cove Fort, Utah. Much of I-70 within Maryland, and other states, is concurrent with U.S. Route 40.
