In southeast Washington, DC, Interstate 695 heads east from Interstate 395 as the Southeast Freeway, marked as going toward Interstate and D.C. Route 295. At right, exit 1A leads to South Capitol Street (the line between the city's southwest and southeast quadrants) and Nationals Park, the home of the Washington Nationals of Major League Baseball. ¼ mile away, exit 1B leads to 6th Street. The movement to I-295 south toward I-95/495 is marked as exit 2A, and to DC 295 north toward U.S. Route 50 as exit 2B. The different designations are due to the Anacostia/Kenilworth Avenue Freeway - the portion of the corridor north of I-695 - being below Interstate highway standards. (4-28-2025)

Meanwhile, after receiving an onramp from 8th Street, which does not have an offramp to it in either direction, I-695 curves sharp right. (4-28-2025)
