Interstate 295

Following on from the Delaware Memorial Bridge, which takes it out of Delaware, Interstate 295 shoots northward from Penns Grove, New Jersey as a free alternative to the New Jersey Turnpike, passes around state capital Trenton, then dips back south over the Delaware River again into Pennsylvania. Beyond U.S. Route 1 in Princeton, I-295 was part of the original alignment of its parent Interstate 95 between north of Philadelphia and Trenton until 2018. I-295 meets the respective northern and eastern termini of New Jersey Route 42 and Interstate 76 in the Bellmawr region of Camden County at a staggered pair of interchanges, a situation being rectified by a state "Direct Connection" project in the 2020s.
