Maryland Route 404 forms the western half of a bi-state highway along with Delaware Route 404 that leads to Delaware's beach towns; it can also be used as an alternate to U.S. Route 50 to Ocean City, Maryland. In Maryland, MD 404 runs along the border of Queen Anne's and Talbot counties, then bypasses to the north Denton, the seat of Caroline County, before continuing on into Delaware. West of Denton, MD 404 was expanded from a two-lane road to a four-lane divided highway in the late 2010s.
