In Virginia, Interstate 85 runs northeast 68 miles from the North Carolina line to an end at Interstate 95 in Petersburg. From exit 61 in Dinwiddie County onward it overlaps with U.S. Route 460. As an indication of its status as a primary north-south corridor for the southern states, I-85 south has control cities Durham, North Carolina and Atlanta right from its northern terminus at Petersburg.
