Interstate 271 north

Interstate 271 northbound makes its way away from its southern terminus at parent Interstate 71 in Medina Township, Ohio. It is one of two auxiliary routes of I-71, along with I-471 in Cincinnati. (4-10-2026)

I-271 intersects Ohio State Route 94 in 3 miles, I-77 in 9 miles, and Erie, Pennsylvania is 118 miles away via Interstate 90 east. (4-10-2026)

The highway's median widens as it passes under Wilbur Road, which has one overpass for each of I-271's carriageways. (4-10-2026)

At exit 3, OH 94's control cities are Wadsworth and North Royalton, and the next exit is 7 miles away. (4-10-2026)

For a brief period, the highway's southbound carriageway becomes higher than the northbound. (4-10-2026)

At this point, I-271 crosses from Medina into Summit County. (4-10-2026)

Just over the county line, the Interstate passes under Everett Road at a 45-degree angle. (4-10-2026)

Southern Road subsequently crosses overhead. (4-10-2026)

Over the next mile and a half, exit 9 leads to Ohio State Route 176, which leads to southbound Interstate 77 and the town of Richfield, and exit 10 leads directly to I-77 north toward Cleveland. (4-10-2026)

The Interstate then goes gently downhill, entering Richfield while at it. (4-10-2026)

In one mile, exit 12 intersects Ohio State Route 303, which has control cities of Richfield and Peninsula. (4-10-2026)

Trucks bound for Ohio State Route 8 to the east are to remain on I-271 for the time being, because they are prohibited on OH 303 which runs through National Park Service property. (4-10-2026)

Exit 12 is straight ahead on the right. This is one way to get to I-80 from I-271; the two Interstates have no direct interchange with one another. (4-10-2026)
